Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all? Not feeling too fabulous these days? Well, that’s not the question to ask a Mom who is struggling to lose the pregnancy weight. But the good news is that you can overcome the lingering “spell” of Mother Nature’s pregnancy weight and re-claim a toned and lean body. Here’s how you can have a fairy tale ending.

Despite the progress women have made thanks to the Women’s Movement, women still buy into the illusion that the media spins about the factors that make a woman the “fairest in the land”. Celebrity Moms such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Heidi Klum and Angelina Jolie, who bounce back into their thin pre-pregnancy body within a few months, are portrayed as the “norm” for all Moms. The reality is that the average busy Mom doesn’t have the financial means to hire a full-time personal trainer, dietician, personal assistant or nanny to get fit or even thin for that matter. Needless to say that most Moms don’t have the time to burn the baby fat plus deal with the demands of a typical day. So what’s a Mom to do? You have to find a realistic way to get healthy and lose your tummy.

Moms want to look good and feel great. At least you don’t have the pressure to burn the baby fat within a few months just to look skinny in order to avoid ending up on the front cover of the tabloids looking “fat”. That’s what the Celebes have to worry about and that’s their incentive. What’s your incentive? You have the advantage of losing the baby fat in a healthy way and keep the weight off for good with a lifestyle program. And that’s an excellent incentive.

1. Convenience

Any decent program should be arranged in such a way that it takes the role of a Guide rather than a Coach. Success is up to you. Therefore, you should be looking for a program that has flexibility and convenience. This means it should take be able to accommodate the demands of a busy Mom such as showing you how to save time on meal planning and exercise, so that you can have more quality time with your family. Also a program should have longevity by having the various resources that can provide support and help to maintain a healthy lifestyle and long-term weight management. These should be integral parts of a respectable lifestyle program.

2. Fat Burning Exercises

Any form of exercise is a good thing. But if you are a busy Mom with no time for the gym to complete a 45 minute run on the treadmill to trim your tummy, then you need a lifestyle program that has an exercise program that is best suited for your needs. This means that the workouts must be user-friendly, designed to lose your tummy, and can be done at home. The exercise program should include resistance training.

Resistance training is a form of strength training that uses force such as free weights or your own body weight to strengthen your muscles. Also studies show that when done at high intensity in short intervals, it is more efficient at burning fat over a 24-hour (post-exercise) period than aerobic exercise. Because training is done in short intervals, a workout session can be done in 15 minutes. It is also the strength training of choice for those looking to get lean, toned muscles. Toned muscles are the fat burning factories in your body. If losing the baby fat is your goal, and then resistance interval training at high intensity gives you the double benefit of toning your body and losing the weight.

3. The Bonuses

A good lifestyle program should have additional tools to help you in losing pregnancy weight and staying healthy. Extra tools such as nutritional guides complete with recipes, daily or weekly menus, follow-up and support e-mails, newsletters, blogs and fitness journals should be available. These tools will further assist and educate you to make and maintain the transition to a healthier lifestyle. Having a forum or support group where you can connect with other women to share ideas, struggles and successes is another example of an excellent bonus to look for in a lifestyle program.

Whatever reason you have to lose your tummy and get into shape, you need to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Losing pregnancy weight should be more than just shedding pounds but it should be a way of maintaining and living a healthy life. Only you can get your body healthy. But getting there will require a good lifestyle program that will be able to see you through the good, the bad and the ugly on your road to health and wellness. The benefits will be tenfold for you and your family.
